Sumner County Middle College High School (MCHS) at Volunteer State Community College (VSCC) is a collaboration between Sumner County Schools and Volunteer State Community College. MCHS is designed to give motivated students like you the opportunity to receive a high school diploma while earning credits toward a college degree or exploring vocational and career options. MCHS is designed so you can earn enough college credits to graduate with both a high school diploma and a VSCC associate degree if you start the program as a junior. In the more independent learning environment of the VSCC campus you will take ownership of your own learning, and you must be mature enough to function in the college environment while managing the freedoms and stress of college. This is the right place for you if reaching your full potential can better be reached in a “non-traditional” school setting with flexible scheduling.
As a MCHS student at VSCC, you may choose from a wide variety of courses. This variety will help you in career exploration and might not be available at a traditional high school. In addition, you will be able to focus on degree choices in the liberal arts, technology, health, business and more. As a MCHS student at VSCC student, you will be invited to participate in some of the available college clubs and activities.
Being part of the MCHS program at VSCC will give you a head start on college and a competitive edge without the cost of tuition.
Who is Eligible?
If you attend a Sumner County public school and have a sufficient score on the ACT and at least 10 high school credits, then you may be eligible for Sumner County Middle College High School at Volunteer State Community College. Other factors including attendance, discipline and grades may be considered in the decision on whether a student is admitted to the Middle College High School. For more detailed information look at the links at the left of the page.
